A high-speed Brightline train in Florida collided with a Delray Beach Fire Rescue ladder truck on Saturday morning, resulting in injuries to at least 15 individuals, including three firefighters. The firefighters were promptly taken to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition, while the 12 passengers sustained minor injuries and were also transported for medical attention, as confirmed by Delray Beach city officials.
The incident occurred at 10:45 a.m. in Delray Beach near the intersection of E. Atlantic Avenue and Railroad Avenue. Delray Beach is situated approximately 30 miles north of Fort Lauderdale. Brightline, a high-speed train service, operates between Miami and Orlando, making stops in Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach.
The Delray Beach Police Department, Brightline, and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. In a statement released by Brightline's safety and security team, they emphasized the importance of railroad safety as a collective responsibility, urging the public to never attempt to drive around crossing gates when they are down.
