A high-rise building was evacuated after smoke was seen coming from its rear.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called to Bolton Street in Liverpool city centre at 12.37pm today (February 15) after an alarm was evacuated. Two fire engines attended the scene and found smoke issuing from the rear of a building.
Firefighters used a ladder and removed one metal panel. It is believed the smoke was caused by a discarded cigarette.

Photos taken by the ECHO show a large scorch mark to a metal panel above a ground floor window on The Lantern student accommodation building. The building was evacuated as a precaution and a large number of students were taken to an area in front of Lime Street station.
There are no reports of any injuries. Fire crews were expected to leave the scene around 2.30pm.
