With the Lakers continuing to drop games regularly, especially to teams they should’ve beaten, an increasing number of fans are practically begging for head coach Darvin Ham to be fired.
Ham has made some questionable decisions with his rotations and lineups, and he has been forced to juggle his lineups due to a continuing string of injuries. However, the Lakers have problems that are beyond his control, including those injuries, as well as their very poor 3-point shooting.
The question is whether the team’s front office feels the same way about him as fans do. According to one prominent reporter, a “high-ranking Lakers source” downplayed the notion that Ham is about to be fired, although that source admitted the coach’s seat is getting a little warm (h/t Lakers Daily).
Via The Athletic:
“Yet as we’re reminded every year, there’s a significant difference between the mood around a coach souring and the power brokers above him actually deciding to make a change,” wrote Sam Amick. “With that in mind, a high-ranking Lakers source pushed back against the idea Ham is on the verge of being fired. Still, serious pressure from within is clearly being applied on Ham, and there’s no better way for him to relieve it than by winning his way out in the days and weeks to come.”
Los Angeles is coming off a dispirited 110-96 loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday in which it looked indecisive, unenergetic and confused. The Heat threw a zone defense at it for much of the game, and it responded by committing 21 turnovers and going 4-of-30 from 3-point range.
