Hideki Matsuyama struggled on Thursday.
On the par-5 18th, his ninth hole of the day, Matsuyama carded a nine after dumping three balls in the water.
After the round, he withdrew from the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities due to wrist soreness.
Matsuyama has been plagued with injuries in 2022. He withdrew from the Valero Texas Open after one round due to a neck injury. Before that, he withdrew from the Players Championship due to a back injury.
Now, add a wrist injury to the list.
With the FedEx Cup playoffs on the horizon, don’t be surprised if the 2021 Masters champion, who ranks eighth in the FedEx Cup standings, sits out until the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of three playoff events.
Hideki Matsuyama (sore wrist) is a WD after round one of the 3M Open.
