Hidden north Dublin gem gives visitors chance to see unexpected animal roaming the hills

Dubliners looking for a sunshine adventure can head for the hills this summer where they might even get a glimpse of some alpacas.

The Howth Head cliff walk is a fun way to get your 10,000 steps in, and if you’re lucky enough you can spot a few of the woolly animals on your trail.

According to the @twolostexplorers on TikTok, you can see them “once you get to the second turn, look up!”

The alpacas are used as a guard animal in the area. They protect lambs or sheep against foxes which might attack.

There's a Free Walking Tour you can take that explores the picturesque fishing village of Howth.

You can journey through this ancient part of the Irish coastline so whether you are interested in history, nature, or looking to enjoy the salty air of the Irish sea, this walk is the perfect place.

Not only will visitors be taught the history of Howth, they will also get an insight into what the seaside town is all about.

You will be captivated by stories of Howth's past and present all delivered in an engaging and humorous way.

And it’s breath-taking on a sunny day!
