A successful nail salon has opened its third shop in the city centre. 1st Class Nails originally opened back in 2015 in Mansfield Road in Sherwood and that shop is still going strong.
Since then, in 2021, it expanded with a store in Arnold’s Front Street and now, with a third shop opening in St Peter’s Gate, replacing a former nail salon.
The store opened on Wednesday, June 7 and also includes an area where children can sit and have a pedicure, too.

Owner Julie Nguyen said: “At the moment, Sherwood and Arnold are both busy. Sherwood’s a bit busier because it’s on the main street and when people are driving by, they see us, there are more shoppers in Sherwood. With the Sherwood shop doing so well, we had to open up a shop in Arnold.”
Julie continued: “I believe we do so well because we have good service, really good hygiene and that makes customers want to come back.”
Acrylics and gel designs are popular at the shop with ‘builder in a bottle’ (BIAB) becoming increasingly popular, too. The nail salon uses all-natural products, with most from popular brand Kaeso.
Julie added: “When this business was advertised for sale, the rent here was high, the nail shop before couldn’t afford it. Here, it is hidden from the main city centre and I think it will be hard to advertise we’re here and to build this one up compared to Sherwood and Arnold.”
The prices at 1st Class Nails vary but a full set of acrylics starts from £37. Noticing the balloons outside the shop for the grand opening, Kayleigh Smith, 35, who lives in Aspley, said: “I get my nails done all the time, so I might try here.
“I go to Ocean Nails usually but it's a skill and nail shops are so popular, it’s not just women that go in there. Here [1st Class Nails] is a bit out of the way but I’m sure they’ll still do well especially if this is their third shop.”
Annabelle Ryan, 18, a student who lives in St Ann’s, said: “I love getting my nails done, they make you feel good and it’s always nice when someone compliments them, I think this new shop can build itself up and get people coming back, it looks nice and clean inside which is what I always look for.”
1st Class nails will be open every day.
