Hidden gem Bristol restaurant reopens for dinner service and announces supermarket plans

A popular Korean restaurant in Bristol city centre has revealed exciting new plans for the summer. Sky Kong Kong on Haymarket Walk confirmed it will temporarily be resuming dinner service as well as new plans to open a community supermarket.

Chef and owner Wizzy Chung opened Sky Kong Kong nine years ago celebrating Korean gastronomy using organic, local ingredients. The restaurant offers communal dining and is open Monday to Friday at lunchtime, but will temporarily offer evening meals on Fridays and Saturdays.

Often referred to as Bristol's hidden gem, the menu changes daily using seasonal produce with beautiful presentation, specialising in fresh fish dishes, barbecued meat and dumplings. Sky Kong Kong also teased plans for its own community supermarket expected to launch in the near future. It is set to be a small greengrocer in the city centre with a fishmonger and butcher attached.

"We are overjoyed to announce the official registration of our Community Interest Company (CIC): Barimigol! This is a significant milestone for us as we work towards bringing to life the community supermarket, food festivals, 24-hour restaurant, further cookbooks and other contributions to our beloved community," it said in its newsletter.

It's not the first time chef Wizzy - who also has her own cookbook - has launched a scheme to help the community. In 2021, the restaurant offered £1 lunch deal to put a smile on people's faces during the coronavirus pandemic.
