Hibs transfer latest as David Mitchell leaves with Partick Thistle and Dundee 'keen'

David Mitchell has left Hibs as he looks to playing first team football after less than a year since he hooked up with the Easter Road side from Clyde.

On his arrival in the capital he penned a two-year deal and still had one year of that agreement to go but with David Marshall joining the club this summer on a pre-contract, the 32-year-old would have been third choice behind the Scotland international and back-up Kevin Dabrowski following Matt Macey's transfer to Luton Town.

However, instead of playing the role of No3 at the club Football Scotland report that he has decided to seek a new opportunity with a move to the Scottish Championship looking likely after Hibs agreed to release him from his contract.

A short statement read: "David Mitchell has agreed to a mutual termination of his Hibs contract.

" We wish David all the best for the future and thank him for his professionalism during his time at the club."

The same report states Partick Thistle are leading the race to sign him but they face competition from league rivals Dundee.

Ian McCall has recently spoken of his desire to add a further goalkeeper to his ranks as part of his summer recruitment plans at Firhill and have previously tried to land the goalkeeper on a number of occasions.

Now Easter Road boss Johnson - who is overseeing a summer overhaul of ins and outs - has agreed to let him leave with a decision on his next move expected soon, but Thistle are said to be in the driving seat.

The Jags have Jamie Sneddon as their only senior keeper with youngster Mason McCready also there as a back-up.

The 32-year-old started his career at Ayr before joining Stranraer and then turned full time with Dundee in 2015.

He's also starred for Falkirk and Clyde before his move to Hibs.

Speaking to Hibs' official website on his decision to leave, Mitchell said: “It’s been a tough decision but I am now at an age where the most important thing for me is playing.

“The manager was very understanding and the club made the process very easy for me. Everyone at Hibs has been amazing during my time here and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I’d like to thank all the Hibernian staff, fans and my team-mates for making it such a brilliant experience and making me a real part of the Hibs family."
