Hibernian are to mark the 50th anniversary of their League Cup victory over Celtic with a get-together at Easter Road next month.
‘An Audience With Our 1972 League Cup Winners’ will have added poignancy following the passing this week of Jimmy O’Rourke, scorer of the winning goal in the 2-1 triumph 50 years ago.
Team-mates John Blackley, John Brownlie, Alex Edwards, Jim Herriot and Pat Stanton, who scored Hibs’ first goal at Hampden, will reunite on December 9 for an evening with supporters, exactly half a century on.
It was the capital side’s first success in the tournament and, at the time, their first in a cup competition since the Scottish Cup win of 1902.
