Hibs target Benfica transfer raid as Jair Tavares 'likely' to make Easter Road next club

Hibs are in the driving seat for Benfica winger Jair Tavares, according to a report in Portugal.

It is reported that the Edinburgh club have given the Liga Nos giants two options in their pursuit of the 21-year-old who predominantly plays as a left winger.

Transfers24hr claim Hibs haven't offered Benfica a transfer fee but they will split any sell-on 50-50.

Another option put forward is to pay a transfer fee and allow the Portuguese club to keep 30% of the sell on.

It's stated that Easter Road is 'the most likely' destination for him but Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles also hold an interest.

Tavares plays for the Lisbon club's 'B' team and his contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2024.

He netted four times with one assist across 25 games in the Portuguese second tier as the Benfica youngsters finished fifth.

Hibs are gearing up for their first Premiership campaign under new boss Lee Johnson and start their competitive season in the Premier Sports Cup against Clyde next month.
