Hibs star Ryan Porteous in court accused of throwing glass at woman's head in Scots nightspot

Hibs star Ryan Porteous has appeared in court for allegedly throwing a glass which struck a woman on the head at a Scots nightspot.

The 23-year-old defender appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday and was told he faced trial in September.

Defence agent David Allan said Porteous had offered to plead guilty to a lesser charge against him.

Mr Allan said the player would admit culpably and recklessly throwing a glass at Siobhan Brett which struck her on the head to her injury at Woodburn Miners Club in Dalkeith, Midlothian, on February 20 this year.

But the solicitor said the Crown had rejected that offer.

Mr Allan said Porteous pled not guilty to the alternative charge that he assaulted Siobhan by throwing a glass at her, striking her on the head to her injury.

Fiscal depute Bernadette Cuthbertson said CCTV footage of the alleged incident still needed to be reviewed.

Ms Cuthbertson said the Crown was seeking bail conditions against Porteous thatf he does not enter Woodburn Miners Club.

Sheriff Matthew Auchincloss set the trial for September 14 and granted bail with the special condition.

The sheriff asked Porteous, of Dalkeith, if he understood the bail conditions.

Porteous replied: “Yes.”

Porteous made his debut for the Easter Road first team during the 2017/2018 season and earned a first call-up for Scotland’s senior squad in 2019.
