Hibs star Kyle Magennis in Jack Ross owe 'everything' message as he labels him his 'idol'

Kyle Magennis is stunned Jack Ross is still out of work as the Hibs star admitted to owing EVERYTHING to his former boss.

The 46-year-old managed the midfielder at St Mirren and gave him his big chance in Paisley before taking him to the capital when he landed the top job at Easter Road. Following his exit from Leith he took over the reins at Dundee United but things didn't work out as planned and he was sacked just months into the role after a poor start to the campaign with a 9-0 hammering by Celtic part of that horror run.

Ross is still on the look out for his next opportunity in the game, but Magennis is in no doubt over his managerial style. He rates his former gaffer 'so highly' and knows just how 'brilliant' he is as he labelled him is idol for giving him the platform and opportunity to succeed as a professional footballer. He said: “I am surprised Jack is out of a job because I rate him so highly. I thought he was a brilliant manager, but it didn’t work out at Hibs and Dundee United.

“What do I owe him? Everything. He gave me my chance at St Mirren. I was only young at the time and he threw me into the team, then played me every week and also took me to Hibs from Saints.

“Both times he gave me the platform and gave me the opportunity. Jack Ross he is the guy who got me into professional football and will always be my idol for that.

“As a manager he is open and honest. It is very rare that you see players that don’t get a game every week still like the manager. That was the case with Jack because his training was so good, and he was great with all the boys at Hibs.

“I have seen him rant a few times though. I remember one time at St Mirren, it might have been Inverness away, where he and Stephen McGinn had a screaming match with one another.

“The next day, though, he was back being one of the boys again — that was one of the good things about Jack, he didn’t carry issues over.

“He is obviously capable of coming back and managing at the top level. He took Hibs to third place for the first time in a long time and took us to cup finals.”
