Hibs seal UEFA Youth League progression as Oscar MacIntyre proves Easter Road penalty hero

Hibs have secured their place in the next round of the UEFA Youth League after overcoming Molde on penalty kicks.

Youngster Oscar MacIntyre was awarded Man of the Match and stepped up to score the winning penalty kick in a 5-4 shootout success over the Norwegian side. They came into the game at 1-0 down from the first leg in Norway but managed to pull back the deficit with a 2-1 win in 90 minutes in front of a strong crowd at Easter Road.

Jacob Blaney put them ahead in the match before Malik Zaid ensured they nudged ahead in the tie overall. Martin Tornes then forced the tie to penalties, where goalkeeper Murray Johnson's save from Johan Bakke locked in progression for Hibs. They face Nantes of France in the next round of the UEFA Youth League after thriving in front of over 3,000 supporters at the home of Lee Johnson's senior side.

Academy director Steve Kean told Hibs' official website: “We’re ecstatic to get through against a very, very good side. We knew from the first leg how good they were but felt confident if we could get them back here to Easter Road in front of the fans.

“I’m delighted so many fans turned out, over 3,000, to see the young players perform and we were thoroughly deserving to go through over the two ties.

“We were slightly disappointed it went to penalties because we felt we’d put enough in, and Murray Johnson didn’t have many too many saves to make; their goal was only their second shot on target.

“We showed determination to stay in the tie from the first leg to get it too tonight where we were sensational.

“We should great composure for the penalties, some good penalties, and then Murray made the save. We’re absolutely delighted against what is a really, really good outfit.”

MacIntyre added: "It was an amazing night. We couldn't have had it any other way.

"Over the course of the tie, we had a gameplan - we had some tough moments but we stuck to it and thankfully came away with the win.

"There are some boys in the squad who have been here for six, seven, eight years and it has all just come together.

"We've achieved so much together as a group and it has been amazing to be able to show the fans tonight what we are capable of."
