Hibs' appeal against Ryan Porteous' red card at the weekend has been unsuccessful.
The defender was sent off for cleaning out Aberdeen's Ross McCrorie in the box, leading to the award of a spot kick.
While Shaun Maloney agreed that it was a penalty, he felt Porteous made a genuine attempt to win the ball.
However, the club's appeal against the red has been rejected by the Scottish FA, who have handed Porteous and extra game on top of his three-match suspension, with the panel deciding that it had "no prospect of success."
That rules him out of Saturday's clash with Dundee United and the league derby against Hearts at Tynecastle the following week, as well as Hibs' first two fixtures after the split.
A statement from the Easter Road club said: "We can confirm that our appeal against Ryan Porteous’ sending off against Aberdeen has been unsuccessful.
"Our centre-back was dismissed after giving away a penalty in our defeat at Pittodrie.
"After receiving our appeal, we are disappointed that the SFA have deemed that there wasn’t a possibility for Ryan to play the ball successfully and have increased his suspension to four league games.
"That means he will miss our games against Dundee United and Hearts, alongside the first two matches after the split.
"He will, however, be available for our Scottish Cup Semi-Final against Hearts at Hampden."
