Hibs new boy Will Fish on advice from Manchester United star and Darren Fletcher's role in deal

Hibs new boy Will Fish is ready to make an impact thanks to top tips from a Manchester United star.

The 19-year-old defender arrived at Easter Road on loan on deadline day to bolster Lee Johnson’s defence and was an unused sub in the Hibees 1-0 over Kilmarnock last week.

The Red Devils starlet spent his pre-season training with Erik ten Hag’s first team squad as he mixed it with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho. He joined them for their warm up camp in Australia and even came on as a sub in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on that tour, but was sent off for a last-man foul on Victor Akinwale.

And Fish has credited the man who he replaced on that day, United captain Harry Maguire, for helping him find his feet at Old Trafford, before sealing a loan move to Hibs.

He said: “Harry was great. I joined the tour late, but straight away he brings you into the group and helps you on the training pitch.

“Even just training with these guys is a boost. Everything that comes with it, the media attention, the standard of training, all of that is all good.

“The main purpose of going on loan is getting you ready to, hopefully, one day go back and play for them.”

Fish was also backed by ex-Scotland captain Darren Fletcher, who now works as United’s technical director over his Easter Road move.

Fish who also previously spent time at National League outfit Stockport County, added: “When I heard that Hibs were interested I said yes straight away.

“I spoke to Fletch on the way up and he was all for it.

“He said it’s a great place to go, a massive club, with great fans, so he thought the same as me.

“He’s great with us. He oversees training every day for the first team and he helps sort out players making that step up to the first team from the 23s. He’s great.”

Fish says he is looking forward to derby clashes against Hearts and heading to Ibrox and Celtic Park to face up to Rangers and Celtic.

He continued: “It’s a young team and they want me to be a leader and show people what I can do.

“You’ve obviously got the Old Firm. When we play them away that will be bouncing. The derby as well. I can’t wait to experience moments like that.”
