Hibs join race for St Mirren keeper Jak Alnwick as contract continues to tick down

St Mirren’s prospects of holding on to number one keeper Jak Alnwick have hit another snag after Hibs joined the race to bag his signature.

Ex-Saints manager Jim Goodwin has already opened up on his desire to bring the man he signed from Blackpool to his new club Aberdeen, with talks understood to have already taken place.

And now Hibernian have also been in contact with the former Rangers stopper as they look to try and persuade him to move to Easter Road.

The 28-year-old’s contract with the Buddies expires this summer, with St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson keen to keep hold of him after an impressive two-year spell in Paisley.

But with the Dons and Hibs in a position to offer more lucrative deals, and with Alnwick also keen to explore options south of the border, it appears more likely that this season will be his last at the SMISA Stadium.

Alnwick has repeatedly stated in recent months that he wished to focus on matters on the pitch before sorting out his future nearer the end of the current campaign.

Last week Robinson revealed to Express Sport a couple of unnamed players had turned down new contract offers "as it stands".
