Hibs edged out by Kilmarnock as form woes deepen at Rugby Park - three things we learned

Hibs suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in their latest Premiership match against Kilmarnock.

It was the final game of the season pre-World Cup break for manager Lee Johnson, looking to put behind them the blues of a run that consisted of five defeats from their previous six matches. There were no goals in the first half but it was the away side who had it in the net when Elias Melkersen looked to have scored, but VAR had other ideas.

The Norwegian had a bicycle kick go inches over the bar but for all their attacking endeavour, Dan Armstrong's penalty at the start of the second half means it's now six defeats in seven for the Hibees. It leaves them with plenty to ponder over their four week hiatus that they'll head into as part of the bottom six. Here are three things we learned from the Hibs performance.

Clinical touch

For all that Hibs hammered the goal in this one, they only got properly close to it once, registering just a sole shot on target.

Having chances is one things but Johnson's men didn't make enough of the openings they created.

Freefall

Is the break coming at a good time for the Easter Road side? Only they can answer that but it's certainly a moment to hit the reset button.

Six defeats in seven is not the standard expected and with their next five after the break including trips to Rangers, Hearts and a home test versus Celtic, it's far from ideal.

Bring in the cavalry

That's it for the Hibees until they travel to Rangers in the middle of next month and there will now be a focus on replenishing their players.

After the break, they will have Martin Boyle back in the fray and Kevin Nisbet won't be far off him. There will also be more time for Aiden McGeady to heal while players such as Kyle Magennis and Demetri Mitchell can work towards peak fitness.
