Hibs duo set for loan exits as Lee Johnson states transfer scenario after James McPake interest

Hibs manager Lee Johnson says youth wingers Daniel Mackay and Dylan Tait could both head out of Easter Road on loan again.

The pair arrived in Leith under former head coach Jack Ross, joining from Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers respectively in 2021. They each ended up at Kilmarnock in the Championship last season while Tait originally returned to Raith following his permanent Leith switch. League One side Dunfermline - managed by former Hibee James McPake - have made an enquiry over Mackay.

Johnson has stressed the importance of both playing regular minutes in the coming season to the Edinburgh Evening News : “I think both of them could potentially go out on loan. It’s important that young players get 25-plus games a season. You’re not going to get them in the first team here right now but they are a step ahead of the development squad so a loan becomes the next option.

“Dunfermline were interested in Dan, but I think he is probably looking at Championship minimum.

"They are young players, they pop at different times, and I think it would be unfair not to see them first hand over the next six months – ideally close enough where they can get back in with us and do first-team sessions and then they get the best of both worlds.”

Johnson's Hibs side are over in Portugal for warm weather pre-season training ahead of the new Premiership season.

Their competitive campaign begins against Clyde in the Premier Sports Cup on July 9th.
