The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released guidance to implement sex-based definitions across the federal government and its partners. This move expands on President Donald Trump's recent executive order titled 'Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.'
HHS has announced its commitment to implementing policies that protect children from chemical and surgical procedures and is also working on developing a policy for women's sports. As part of these efforts, HHS has launched a new web page for the Office of Women's Health, featuring a video of former collegiate swimmer and activist Riley Gaines discussing the importance of keeping biological men out of women's sports.
In the video, Gaines expresses gratitude to President Trump and HHS for defending truth, common sense, and women's rights. She emphasizes the need for fairness, safety, privacy, and equal opportunity for girls in sports.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated that the administration is focused on restoring biological truth to the federal government and moving away from the previous administration's approach of promoting gender ideology in public life.
According to the guidance provided by HHS, 'Sex' is defined as a person's immutable biological classification as male or female. 'Female' refers to individuals with reproductive systems designed to produce eggs, while 'Male' refers to those with reproductive systems designed to produce sperm. The terms 'Woman,' 'Girl,' 'Man,' 'Boy,' 'Mother,' and 'Father' are also defined based on biological characteristics.
This announcement aligns with the Trump administration's efforts to restore what they refer to as 'biological truth' to the public sector. Notably, the guidance does not address the topic of gender specifically.
Trump's executive orders related to gender, including the ban on biological men in women's sports and transgender individuals in the military, have faced legal challenges from progressive and LGBT advocacy groups, who argue that these orders violate civil rights protections for transgender individuals.
