Heung-min Son’s father predicts ‘crisis’ if Tottenham star remains ‘happy to stay where he is’

Son Woong-jung, the father of Heung-min Son, believes his son “must work harder and make more progress” and predicted a ”crisis” if the forward rests on his laurels.

The 29-year-old scored 23 Premier League goals last season - none of which were penalties - and shared the coveted Golden Boot Award with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Son is now only seven goals from entering the League’s ‘100 club’ and remains of Europe’s most potent attackers, with only the likes of Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe among the few names to have outscored the Spurs star.

The disappointment, of course, is that the South Korean international is yet to win anything at Tottenham, although Antonio Conte’s arrival is a step to try and rectify that, with Daniel Levy backing the Italian in the transfer market.

Even on an individual basis, Son was snubbed when came to PFA Players’ Player of the Year nominations, as well as the PFA Team of the Year.

Speaking to reporters over the weekend, Son Woong-jung said: “He must work harder and make more progress.

“If he is satisfied with what he has achieved now, crisis is on the way. He must always try to do better to stay in the best form, don’t you think? Instead of being happy to stay where he is, I always want him to be 10 percent better.

“He must be able to play a solid role in one of the world’s top clubs. That’s when he will become a world class player.

“Like I said before, he must do 10 percent better on every front to reach that goal.”
