Heroic Asda supermarket delivery driver 'in tears' after stopping dog attack which left schoolboy 'scarred for life'

A supermarket delivery bravely tackled a vicious dog as it latched onto the arm of a schoolboy during a brutal attack.

Asda Ayr home shopping driver Ryan Cameron was left shaken and in tears after his heroic actions put a stop to the mauling of a 12-year-old by earlier this year.

Ryan was out on his deliveries when he spotted the dog bolting towards the young boy in a street in Ayr.

The selfless worker took immediate action and leapt out of the van to help get the dog off the boy.

The dog also attempted to attack Ryan, who already contacted the police and phoned and ambulance for the young boy who was left with horrific wounds.

The Asda home delivery said: “The whole incident happened so fast, but as soon as I witnessed the dog attacking the young boy I pulled up and jumped out of the van.

"The young boy was terrified and so was I, we both were panicking and crying.

“The incident has really upset me but as soon as I witnessed the young boy being attacked, I didn’t think twice, I knew I had to act.”

Yesterday Ayrshire Live told how the boy needed emergency surgery after the dog ravaged his arm.

The victim, who could not be named for legal reasons, suffered nerve damage and required emergency surgery on the deep wounds which left medics stunned.

The boy’s mum, told how her son is now afraid of all dog’s including his own gran’s.

Weeks after the attack the boy and his mum visited the Asda Ayr store and he was treated to a PlayStation game to help him get through his recovery.

Asda store boss Gillian Dillon heaped praise on Ryan for his brave actions.

She said: “I am so glad Ryan reacted the way he did, if he didn’t, I honestly don’t know what would have happened and I commend him for his courage and his bravery.”

“I have spoken to the family and the young boy who are extremely grateful with how Ryan reacted. The young boy had to get surgery and has severe ligament damage; he has visited the store since and we treated him to a PlayStation game to help him get through his recovery period.”
