Hero police officers 'save man's life' after he was injured in fight at McDonald's

Hero police officers helped save a man's life after reports of a fight at a McDonald's in Manchester city centre.

They performed emergency CPR on him on the restaurant floor before paramedics arrived and took him to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said he remained in hospital on Sunday in a 'serious but stable condition' following the incident on Saturday afternoon.

The officers involved are set to be formally commended for their life-saving actions. A man, meanwhile, has been arrested and is being questioned.

Police were called to McDonald's on St Ann's Square in Manchester city centre at 4.10pm on Saturday following reports of a fight.

In a statement, the force said: "GMP neighbourhood officers provided life-saving treatment after a man was injured in a city centre restaurant.

"Officers from the Longsight and Rusholme Neighbourhood Policing Team, who were on patrol in the city centre, attended and performed emergency CPR on a man before paramedics arrived to take him to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition."

Chief Inspector Stephen Wiggins, of GMP's City of Manchester Central division, said: "The officers acted quickly and decisively - all our officers are trained to carry out CPR and in this case may have saved a man's life.

"He is recovering in hospital and hopefully he will make a full recovery.

"We are proud of all our officers and in this case we are putting them forward for a commendation."

A man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in custody for questioning on Sunday morning.

No further details have been revealed about the victim or the man under arrest.
