A quick-thinking milkman became a hero after he raced to help save the life of a pensioner discovered lying on the road and bleeding in Perth.
Jamie Muir thankfully spotted Betty Lawrie (85) on Western Avenue in the dark last Friday night after she had fallen and suffered a head injury.
The Thomson Dairies employee stopped his car and made sure Betty, days away from celebrating her 85th birthday, was in a stable condition with the emergency services quickly called.
An ambulance rushed to the scene and took injured Betty to hospital where she received the vital care needed to make a full recovery.
Jamie said: “I passed by what I first glanced at and thought it was someone lying on the ground in the pitch black, right next to a 60mph speed limit road and thought: ‘that is very dangerous’.
“The closer I got I could see a head wound and blood. I comforted her, made her safe and waited on the ambulance to arrive.
“I was also concerned she had such a large amount cash hanging out her bag, and wanted to make sure she and the money was safe.
“Thankfully at Thomson Dairies we are given full training when taking up the role. Part of this is to look out for customers that may need assistance.
“I was concerned due to it being dark and also next to a very fast and busy road. I’m just glad this story had a happy ending.”
Jamie’s swift actions have seen him and Thomson Dairies receive praise from Betty’s family.
Betty’s granddaughter Jaki Walker sent a thank you message saying: “I just wanted to send a personal thanks from myself and all my family.
“One of your drivers found my gran lying on the road on Western Avenue a couple of nights ago and stopped to help her. She’d fallen and had a head injury.
“Thank you so much for your help and to let you know that she is back at home and recovering well.
“The help was amazing and much appreciated by myself and my mum and uncle. Can’t thank you guys enough.”
Director of Thomson Dairies, William Thomson, said: “This could have been anyone’s mother or grandmother and we are just happy Jamie intervened when he did.
“Thankfully due to our milkman’s awareness and fast reactions she will make a full recovery.”
