Hero Edinburgh driver saves bride from missing wedding after no-show taxi

An Edinburgh man has shared how he was able to save the day for a local bride after her taxi ended up being a no-show.

Bill Sneddon, 66, had been staying at the Edinburgh Park Travelodge when he got chatting to the wedding party outside, only to quickly come to their aide minutes later.

Originally from the capital, Bill, who now lives in Lincolnshire, told Edinburgh Live he had been up for the weekend for a family gathering, and had noticed the bridal party outside on July 16.

Chatting away to the bride, Courtney, and her father, Trevor, the trio watched as the bridesmaids got into a pre-booked taxi and headed to the ceremony, with their car to arrive soon after.

However, despite booking the taxis months in advance, the car was a no show, with Courtney's frantic calls to the operator continuing to tell her it was 'on the way.'

But as the bride realised she was now late for her own wedding, Bill was able to jump into action and save the day by taking the pair in his own car.

He said: "I was outside and I saw them, the bride her father and the bridesmaids. I had said how smashing they looked and we were chatting when a taxi arrived at 1.50pm.

"The bridesmaids got in and off they went and the other taxi was also supposed to come at the same time, because the wedding was at 2pm, so they had phoned and were told it was on the way.

"But then another ten minutes passed and it still wasn't there, so they phoned again and got told it would be there soon. Then they said it will be another five minutes and it still hadn't come."

With guests and the rest of the bridal party waiting at the venue, Bill drove the Courtney and Trevor to the Corn Exchange, where she would be tying the knot.

Arriving half an hour late but avoiding missing the whole thing altogether, Bill said it was only as he was saying goodbye to the pair that Courtney's phone rang to say an eventual taxi had now arrived at the hotel.

He added: "I just said why don't I give you both a lift in my car, it's clean and I'll take you there. So I took them, her father actually tried to pay me and of course I said no, but instead I got a picture of the bride and myself to remember it."
