Hero East Lothian Asda worker races to help elderly customer after bad fall

An East Lothian Asda worker has been praised after he quickly rushed to the aid of an elderly customer after they suffered a bad fall.

Paul McCafferty, a local delivery driver, was described as a "kind hearted soul" after he jumped into action after seeing the pensioner hit their head on the ground.

Running deliveries in the Dunbar area, Paul had been dropping off groceries to the customer when they suddenly tripped and suffered the fall.

Going the extra mile to ensure they were okay, Paul had not only helped the elderly woman back up, but had also taken her inside the house, made her a cup of tea and sat with her to check she was alright.

In an added act of kindness, Paul had also checked in on the customer the following day with a bunch of flowers, reports the Daily Record.

Paul said: "I was helping the customer when she suddenly fell and hit her head. I stayed and made sure she was okay before I went to my next delivery.

"I was worried about her afterwards, so I went to her house the next day to check in and she was delighted to see me. I was glad she was okay!

"I really enjoy my job, especially working with my colleagues and meeting people in the community when out on my deliveries."

The delivery driver's extra kind gesture was appreciated by the customer who was "extremely grateful" that Paul took the time out for a second visit to make sure she was alright.

And Paul's good deed did not go unnoticed, as his kind gesture has now seen him nominated for the supermarket's Service Superstar Awards by General Store Manager, Leigh Millar.

Millar said of Paul's actions: "Paul is a fantastic colleague; he is one of those people who always does everything he can for his customers.

"He is a real team player with a kind-hearted soul. He even went to customers’ houses with flowers and cards on Mother’s Day

"Paul is one in a million and we are so lucky to have him as part of our Asda family."
