A 13-year-old boy has died days after pushing his sister out of the way of a hit-and-run driver.
Tyler Phillips was hit just after celebrating his 13th birthday and died in hospital three days later.
He and his sister Krystal Randolph were heading home when they were hit in a bike lane by an SUV who sped off.
Krystal, also 13, wasn't badly hurt.
Family friend, Steffani Campbell, saw the horror crash in Long Island, New York, unfold. She told NBC : "The car hit her first and I guess he went to jump and grab her, and it just took him.
"She said she watched him fly to the middle of the street and she called an ambulance. They told her to give him CPR and that was it."
His sister added: "He saved my life."
He mum, Desari Mac, said: "He was a hero. He will always be a hero."
Detectives believe the vehicle that fled the scene was a dark-coloured Chevrolet Equinox made between 2005 and 2009.
The front passenger headlight is damaged, NBC reports as well as the front passenger mirror.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 (£4,450) cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
The two siblings studied together at William Paca Middle School.
A statement from the school following the incident read: "While we are thankful that Krystal is expected to survive, we are heartbroken to learn of Tyler's passing.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler’s family and friends at this time."
A funeral for Tyler will be held on Friday at the Mangano Family Funeral Home in Middle Island.
According to his family he loved playing football and basketball. As well as a passion for sports he loved dancing and freestyle music.
Along with his mother and sister, Tyler was survived by his father, Joseph Phillips, and three other siblings - Rebecca, Matthew and Michael.
