If you ask me, one of the best things the Married At First Sight (MAFS) big dogs ever did was create the infamous couple swap challenge. Because, although it’s one of the newer additions ot the MAFS mixture, rumour has it that the challenge is about to create some of the biggest waves to hit the 2025 MAFS contestants yet.
The challenge — which sees the contestants spend a night with another bride or groom — is intended to test the strength of their relationships and see if anyone is even tempted to cross the line with another partner. Usually, the pairs are made up of contestants who have had beef or were placed high up in the ranking challenge.
According to the Daily Mail, the same formula has been followed this season. In the enemies to lovers category (well, that would be the drama goal, wouldn’t it?), Jamie Marinos has been paired with Adrian Araouzou, while Paul Antoine has been partnered with Awhina Rutene.
In the attraction category, we have Jacqui Burfoot paired with Jeff Gobbells, Rhi Disljenkovic with Eliot Donovan and Veronica Cloherty paired with Dave Hand.
While you’d expect there to be beef between Adrian and Jamie, sources say that the real drama happens between Rhi, Jeff, Veronica and Elliot. And apparently, it all boils down to claims of a sore back.
According to sources speaking to the Daily Mail, Jeff originally claimed he was going to take the couch while Jacqui would sleep in the bed. However, when the cameras were gone, he reportedly suggested they share the bed because he had a bad back.
The same scenario apparently happened with Rhi and Eliot, who told the producers they wouldn’t be sharing a bed, but ended up doing so because — you guessed it — they didn’t want a bad back.
Although nothing happened between them, the drama reportedly exploded when Eliot’s actual MAFS bride, Veronica, found out that he shared a bed with Rhi.
“I’m unsure how it will all play out on TV, but Eliot flat-out lied to Veronica [about sharing a bed with Rhi],” an insider told the Daily Mail.
Things then truly kick off during Wednesday’s upcoming dinner party when Veronica confronts Rhi, reportedly creating one of the biggest showdowns of the season.
“She’s super upset but the entire room laughs it off and shuts her down,” the insider said.
“The only people they lied to really was production. The only reason Eliot lied was because he didn’t want to throw Rhi under the bus.”
But that’s not all. In one of the most surprising tidbits of gossip to come out of couples week, rumour has it that everybody’s favourite tattooed gentle giant, Dave, begins to question his seemingly rock-solid relationship with Jamie after being paired with Veronica.
“Everyone already knew Dave wasn’t really into Jamie,” a source claimed to the Daily Mail.
“They were mismatched from the start. He was never fully invested.”
The insider alleges that after spending “effortless” time with Veronica, he realised how “forced” things had been with Jamie.
Personally, I am manifesting that this is not true and the source is just running their goddamn mouth.
Plus, apparently this is the week we all officially find out that Paul dated Awhina’s sister, Cleo. So, if the sneaky little insiders are to be believed, we’re certainly gearing up for a big, explosive week of MAFS.
And before you claim that Couples Swap Week is just a challenge, let me remind you that last season’s challenge was when Duncan James and Evelyn Ellis first realised there was a spark between them.
They’re still happily together — so don’t discount the power of the couple swap challenge!!!!
