Fortnite’s barrage of Chapter 2, Season 2 teasers continues some time today, but before we dive into those, one that appeared late last night seems to have confirmed a big new addition to the map, and is less cryptic than a lot of the other ones have been.
One of the secret phone messages of the teasers made reference to an oil rig, getting players wondering that might be a new POI in this coming season. Last night, a teaser showed that yes, the map really is getting an oil rig, confirming it in two different ways.
The first is what you see above. The outline of the oil rig off the coast of land is seen in the “Kaboom” teaser above. It looks like the south cost of the island somewhere, but that isn’t true. You actually have to take that piece of land and turn it until you find a match, which is what many players did after this debuted.
The result? That would be the confirmed fact that oil rig will appear near Shanty Town and Slurpy Swamp on the south west coast of the island:
The second bit of confirmation is what happens when you play with the contrast of the teaser image itself, and you can see what appears to be the actual structures of the oil rig hiding in plain sight in the background. So yes, this is very, very confirmed at this point.
Introducing an oil rig (maybe a “Slurp rig,” knowing Fortnite) seems a bit odd because Fortnite doesn’t often put many islands off the coast, given that they’re hard to get to. And if they do, they’re connected by a land bridge or zipline.
Well, this is Chapter 2, and we are living in an era where players can now swim, opening up the possibility for more things like this in the future. We also have boats. And on top of that, the other semi-confirmed bit of Season 2 news is that we may be getting helicopters as a new type of vehicle, judging by the appearance of a helicopter “H” landing pad in a different teaser. And how do people often get to oil rigs in real life? Helicopters, of course, and I would be amazed if there wasn’t a landing pad and helicopter on the rig itself once it finally does show up.
Will this be the only addition to the map in season 2 here? No. We already have a lot of hints that something may be happening at the bunker in the mountains, and also the central island of the map seems like it’s going to transform into some sort of base as well.
