Things changed in Season 4 for Fortnite: Battle Royale. First, there was the obvious: Dusty Depot was no more, replaced instead by a massive crater with a mysterious government installation in the middle. After that, however, people kept discover more secrets: not just more craters and meteorites scattered across the map, but new areas, some of them tucked away in hard-to-find locations. Of all these areas, two are clearly involved in whatever the season-long mystery is going to be in this game: one just below Lonely Lodge, and one outside of Snobby Shores. There’s no other word for them but lairs: secret hideouts for what people are assuming are a superhero and villain. Let’s take a look inside, shall we?
The Superhero Mansion: Let’s take a look at this one first, though I’m suspect of how this character can live in a mansion while the rest of the island seems live in squalid, half-destroyed shacks. Is that the behavior of a hero? It’s immediately south of Lonely Lodge, right on the edge of the map. There’s a definite Wayne Manor feel to the whole thing: the upstairs is relatively unremarkable, with a series of guest rooms on the second floor, a laundry room on the first floor and an excercize room on the top floor. Go down to the basement, however, and things get weird. Let’s take a look:
Costume schematics/cowl: If there was any doubt that this place is indeed some sort of superhero lair, these should lay them to rest pretty immediately. Here we see the schematics for a suit of armor that looks a whole lot like Carbide’s, as well as blue cowl on a little display head nearby.
Meeting Room: The central object here is a blue table with a circle in a middle that looks a whole lot like there could be some holographic projections on it: there are also chairs scattered around this main area, creating an area where it’s easy to imagine a group of superheroes hanging out for a mission briefing. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some sort of image pop up on that table either next week or soon after.
Group Shower: More evidence that this is a meeting place for superheroes and that said superheroes like to have fun.
Supervillain Hideout: Moving on to what we’re going to call the supervillain lair, though I still think the Fortnite community is awfully judgy about someone’s decision to live in a skull-shaped mountain hideout. this place can be found inside of the northernmost of the two mountains by Snobby Shores, and accessed either by gliding in through the Snobby side of the mountain or through the missile silo hole in the top. Let’s take a look:
And wouldn’t you know, there’s some fairly odd stuff in this one, starting with the missile. This is sort of the main feature of the hideout, most clearly. It’s also the object that feels like it will have the most to do with whatever upcoming narrative Epic has planned: someone’s going to launch this thing, or somebody’s going to try to stop it, or something. Regardless, it’s indestructible, so we’ll wait to see what happens with it:
An empty pool: Lord knows what’s going on here. There’s usually a chest in the bottom, however.
These charming purple station wagons: No idea what these things are doing in here, or how exactly the occupant plans to use them up here on this mountain. Or maybe they’re harvesting them for parts to be used in some missile-related mechanics?
Medical gurneys: Perhaps whoever lives here is doing life-saving research, but these dilapidated gurneys don’t look all that comfortable. There’s clearly some sort of laboratory in this place, and it’s not all that inviting.
The logo: Just like the other character, this character has a logo. This one is purple and not all that specific.
A sleeping bag in a closet: The other house has no shortage of beds, but this is the only one here. not the most comfortable place to lay your supervillain head down.
