Here’s what it might cost for Patriots to land Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed

Free agency rumors are in full swing, and one top corner has been named as a possible fit for the New England Patriots.

It was reported on Wednesday that Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was getting interest from the Patriots. But what would it take for New England to land him in a hypothetical trade?

The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan noted that he believes the contract for Sneed could be around $20-22 million per year. However, that would not be the only thing the Patriots would have to give up. A draft pick would also be included in the deal.

Callahan commented on what he heard it might take to land Sneed when appearing on NBC Sports Boston.

“People I talked to at the Combine expected it to be a second or third-round pick,” Callahan said. “Now, if you’re the Patriots, you’re selling, ‘Hey, we have a third but because we suck, it’s really going to be closer to the back end of the second round. So, why don’t we give you a third and a fifth or sixth, not this year, but next year, and we’ll recoup that pick when we trade Mac Jones and we really only trade a third-round for L’Jarius Sneed.”

There’s certainly a lot of moving parts with this.

However, acquiring Sneed would give New England a formidable secondary. A healthy Christian Gonzalez alongside Sneed would be a dynamic cornerback duo. It also gives the New England defense another playmaker on what is already one of the best units in football.

Landing Sneed would be a huge get in what should be an active free agency for a rebuilding Patriots team with plenty of money to burn.
