Here’s the one thing the Chiefs must improve ahead of Week 2 vs. Chargers

If the Kansas City Chiefs want to come away with a victory against one of their toughest division rivals, there is one thing they must improve upon in Week 2.

The coaches in Kansas City will tell you every week there are things that they find to improve upon. Their dominant 44-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals might feel flawless, but there was at least one flaw in execution that popped up several times. It’s an issue that could cost them in Week 2.

The Chiefs had some trouble hanging onto the football in Week 1, with five fumbles during the course of the game. Two came from quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne, one came from rookie RB Isiah Pacheco, and the other two were by WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. Thankfully, Kansas City only lost one of the Smith-Schuster fumbles. They ended up bailed out by their defense with a turnover on downs just a few plays later.

Still, putting the ball on the turf that many times is concerning heading into this game.

If you look at the Chargers’ Week 1 win over the Raiders, they didn’t recover any fumbles even with Las Vegas putting the ball on the ground three times. They were opportunistic with two of three interceptions thrown by Derek Carr, though. They scored two touchdowns following interceptions, including a fourth-quarter touchdown to take the lead.

We’ve seen the Chiefs beat themselves with sloppy play and turnovers before and on a short week after a dominant win, that’s going to be a big worry. We know that Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy don’t stand for fumbling the football, so rest assured it will be a point of emphasis during the practice week.
