Here's how to get an iPhone 16 for free

If you’re looking to buy a new iPhone 16, you could face a not-insignificant wait (as the shipping estimate for the Pro Max model already extends into October), along with a not-at-all significant charge. Or, if you’d prefer, you could get one for free.

The launch of new iPhones is inevitably accompanied by incentive offers from carriers, who are looking to lure new customers or lock in existing ones to a new multi-year contract—and this year is no different. Upgrade eligible? Here’s a look at the deals various cellular providers are offering this year.

Verizon

Both eligible existing and new customers to the company’s Unlimited Ultimate plan can get an iPhone 16 Pro for free (or up to $1,000 off any phone in the iPhone 16 lineup), when they trade in an older model in any condition. (Protip: This doesn’t have to be your most recent phone. If you have one that’s long since out of date, it might be worth trading that one in, so you have a more recent backup in case of damage.)

Members or newcomers to the Unlimited Plus play can get up to $830 off. If you opt for the Unlimited Welcome plan, you’ll get a $415 discount.

AT&T

Show up at an AT&T retail facility with an eligible trade-in and it won’t matter which plan you choose. The company is offering three types of deals to new and eligible existing customers:

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro - Free

iPhone 16 Plus - Up to $830 off

iPhone 16 Pro Max - Up to $1,000 off

The company is also offering a free iPhone 16 Pro Max to people who sign up for AT&T Fiber.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile’s deals are very similar to AT&T’s. You’ll need to sign up for an eligible unlimited plan, however.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro – Free with trade

iPhone 16 Plus - Up to $830 off with trade

iPhone 16 Pro Max - Up to $1,000 off with trade
