The New England Patriots made their customary phone call to guard Cole Strange on draft night after Bill Belichick and company selected the offensive lineman in Round 1.
The Patriots were originally slated to pick at 21st overall but traded back and acquired two mid-round picks. At 29th, they stood pat and took Strange. That led to a phone call between Strange, Belichick and owner Robert Kraft. A video on Patriots.com showed that conversation from inside New England’s draft room — though it didn’t reveal what Strange was saying on the other side of the line.
The look inside the draft room was interesting beyond the phone call: You can see director of player personnel Matt Groh, director of scouting Eliot Wolf, senior football advisor Matt Patricia, director of college scouting Camren Williams and director of pro scouting Steve Cargile, among others.
