Here is where do the Jags currently stand with their cap space

The Jacksonville Jaguars need to be one of the more active teams when free agency starts after taking an approach where they mostly tried to stick with value signings last offseason. Of course, that ultimately didn’t move the needle much for the team as they still registered the NFL’s worst record after doing so in 2020, too.

This season, they will have plenty of assets to get better and that starts with free agency. According to the NFLPA, the Jags currently have just over $39 million available in cap space, which puts them in the top-10 as far as salary cap goes.

The Jags had more cap space available, but chose to use the franchise tag on tackle Cam Robinson earlier this week. With the Jags making that the second consecutive time they’ve tagged him, he received a 20% raise, and his cap hit is now a figure of over $16.6 million.

Heading into free agency next week, the Jags have various needs, but the offensive line and adding skill weapons at receiver and tight end seems to be what the Jags need to prioritize as the biggest. Last season rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence struggled mightily due to not having much around him in addition to his inexperience.

After that, the Jags’ needs are still plentiful as they could use an interior linebacker and some help at cornerback behind their top-2 options in Shaquill Griffin and Tyson Campbell.

The legal tampering period begins on Monday, March 14 at noon EST, so the weekend should bring plenty of rumors. Hopefully, those rumors will involve some A-tier signings as the Jags need big-time upgrades this season.

Update: The Jags released running back Carlos Hyde. Per Over the Cap, its a move that saves the Jags $1.9 million.
