Here Are The Three New Starters In 'Pokémon Sword' And 'Pokémon Shield'

Here are the starting Pokémon coming to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield on the Nintendo Switch this year.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be the first full-fledged Pokémon RPG on the Nintendo Switch following last year’s spinoffs.

Nintendo announced the games this morning in a Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct (after all, it’s Pokémon Day!)

You can read more about the game and watch its first trailer here.

Along with the game announcement and Galar region reveal, we also learned who the three Pokémon Starters would be. As is often the case, these consist of one Grass Pokémon, one Fire Pokémon and one Water PokémonYou’ll pick your Starter at some point in the beginning of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield and they’ll be your companion from that point on.

Let’s take a look at each.

First up we have Grookey, an adorable Grass Monkey:

Next we have Scorbunny, an equally adorable Fire Bunny:

And finally, Sobble, perhaps the cutest of the bunch:

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield launch late 2019—most likely late November or early December. So far they look fantastic, and I’m just excited to play a Pokémon RPG on the big screen (though it’s just as likely I’ll play these in the Switch’s handheld mode.)

Which Starter will you pick?
