Here Are the Details of the Menendez Brothers' Hearing and How You Can Follow the Hearing Live

The case of the Menéndez brothers, which shocked the United States in the late 1980s, is once again drawing public attention with a hearing scheduled for November 25 at the Van Nuys Courthouse in California.

Erik and Lyle Menéndez, serving life sentences without parole for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menéndez, are seeking a review of their convictions based on new evidence that could change the course of their case.

Will the Menéndez brothers attend the hearing?

Will The Brothers Be Present?

Erik and Lyle Menendez are expected to participate virtually from the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Otay Mesa, in Southern California.

However, it remains unclear if the hearing will be broadcast simultaneously or streamed online. If it happens, this rare appearance will allow the public and the media to see the brothers live for the first time since their 1996 conviction.

Will the Hearing Be Streamed or Broadcast on TV?

As expected, media interest in the hearing is significant. The Los Angeles County Superior Court has assigned a limited number of seats to media outlets, with all allocations already distributed by the Court's Communications Office.

As for live streaming or public broadcast of the brother's video from prison, no official announcement has been made. Given the high-profile nature of the case, media outlets with access to the courtroom may share clips, but a full live stream has not been confirmed.

How Can Someone Attend?

For those wishing to attend in person, the court has organized a public lottery to assign 16 available seats to people who wish to attend. According to the information made public, lottery tickets will be distributed on Monday, November 25, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at the Van Nuys West courthouse. The draw will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with winners receiving non-transferable credentials to be worn at all times inside the courthouse.

Photography, video, and audio recording are strictly prohibited in courtrooms, hallways, and lobbyes.

What is the Purpose of the Hearing?

The November 25 hearing will focus on new evidence presented by the brothers' defense team, potentially including testimony and documents not considered in the original trial. The judge will determine whether this evidence warrants a sentence review or even a new trial.

While a definitive decision is unlikely during this session, the hearing could lay the groundwork for future legal proceedings that may decide the fate of Erik and Lyle Menéndez.
