The Overwatch Anniversary Event is live, bringing back a bunch of old modes, the new Overwatch Workshop, and–of course–a fresh batch of skins you can find in the game’s loot boxes.
The Anniversary Event coincides with a free trial of the game running from now until May 28th. It’s as good a time as any to hop into Overwatch, which I’m planning on doing today. I played some recently when the new Havana map went live and it really is such a fun game. Sometimes you have to be patient when trying to find a game these days, but hopefully that won’t be the case during this event.
In any case, let’s take a look at all the new skins. I’ll start with the “worst” (which aren’t bad by any means) and work my way to the “best” (or at least my favorites). There’s quite a lot of variety here, that’s for sure. Six are Legendary and three are Epic. Let’s take a look.
Doomfist
Sombra
D.Va Midnight
Widowmaker
Pharah
D.Va Academy Skin
This is the D.Va skin Jeff Kaplan said would “break the internet” I guess because it’s a schoolgirl outfit and inherently a bit naughty? I don’t think it’s going to break the internet, but I’m an optimist.
Next up we have this spacesuit Pharah skin which is quite nice:
Next up is Mei who very well might break the internet showing this much thigh:
I guess she’s a waitress now . . . at a bubble tea shop? She can make all the ice. It’s a funky skin.
For the bronze, we have Toxic Roadhog who is looking even more disgusting than usual:
Coming in at second place is Riot Police Brigitte who is just badass in this skin (which apparently has sirens also):
And last, but certainly not least, taking gold for this year’s Anniversary Event is Gargoyle Winston who is just completely transformed here from ape to fearsome stone monster:
Too bad I’m lousy with Winston. Of these, I suppose the only character I play on a regular basis is D.Va. I haven’t really messed around with Brigitte much since I really sort of gave up on the game around when she came out. Now there’s even newer characters that I haven’t played more than once or twice.
So it’s time to hop back into Overwatch and see what this whole Anniversary Event is all about. There will be a rotating schedule of special brawls so if you see one in that list that you like, set aside some time to hop back in. If you miss one you want to play, don’t worry: the rotation continues for three weeks with the event ending on June 11th. Plenty of time.
