Fortnite is back with some significant map changes for season 5 after Galactus activated the Zero Point in the middle of the map, which just so happens to be the name of this season.
This merged together some existing realities into our Chapter 2 one, and the game wants you to explore these new (and some old) locations for yourself as part of the first few quests of the season.
There are both new named locations and also unnamed landmarks that are blacked out on your map.
First, the major new additions:
Stealthy Stronghold
This is a new Jurassic Park-looking area that I believe might be the hunting grounds of Mave, if we are assigning a few of these new zones to specific battle pass skins. It’s a boxed in jungle zone which isn’t exactly a fully new biome, but it’s an interesting place to explore all the same.
Colossal Colosseum
Well I think it’s pretty obvious that’s where our new gladiator friend Menace comes from. This is one of the zones in the new “salt desert” that makes up the middle of the map and is not snow, like I first thought. It’s probably got the most detail put into it of any new zone, and it’s absolute mayhem if you land there right now.
Hunter’s Haven
This is a weird one that I think may belong to Lexa, the anime character, and it looks like a futuristic cult compound that you might find in like, Brave New World or something. And it’s guarded by enemy NPCs, so you can practice your assassination skills on them if you want.
Razor Crest
This is not a named zone, but it’s its own landmark on the map on the edge of the Salt Flats. From what I can tell it’s the only thing Mando brought with him from his world when he was yoinked over here to come help us with our Zero Point problem.
Salty Towers, And More Of The Chapter 1 Map
Alright so uh, here’s where things start to get weird. It’s not just random realities coming to merge with Fortnite here, it’s also the Chapter 1 map. Chief among the new arrivals in many “merged” zones is Salty Towers, a blending of elements of Salty Springs and Tilted Towers, including some of its most iconic buildings.
But that’s not all. In other, unnamed shaded landmarks around the map, you will find the likes of Flush Factory, Durrr Burger, Viking Vessel, Dusty Depot, Tomatohead’s and possibly more I have yet to find. Whether the entire old map merges over at some point remains to be seen, but my guess is we see more stuff arrive as the season goes on.
There’s a lot to find out there, some for quests, some just for fun. Go exploring.
