Halloween has officially arrived in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
The game has been releasing spooky Outfits and other cosmetics throughout the month of October, but this week marks the beginning of the new Fortnitemares event, which comes with a new set of free challenges, the super cool evolving Deadfire skin, and AI Cube monsters.
Also discovered in the game files for the big patch v6.20 are a bunch of new skins, gliders, back bling, emotes and other cosmetics. These are, surprisingly, only somewhat Halloween-themed, featuring a wide assortment of Outfits and accompanying gear.
Outfits
Summit Striker (Epic) “Always first to the top.”
This appears to be a new Starter Pack. It will likely cost $4.99 and come with the skin, back bling and 600 V-Bucks. It reminds me quite a lot of past Starter Pack skins, but I like it more. There’s something very quirky about this skin. I dig it.
Guan Yu (Epic) “Loyalty and bravery at all times.”
Guan Yu actually leaked last week also (see all those very cool leaked cosmetics here) but he hasn’t hit the Item Shop yet so I guess he’s just in this week’s files as well. Should drop any day now.
Rosa (Epic) “Celebrate the unknown.”
Basically Rosa and her male counterpart, Dante (below), are straight out of Pixar’s Coco. They’re dia de los muertos skins and they’re gorgeous. It also appears that they’re evolving or customizable skins if you look closely at this image of the entire batch of leaked cosmetics:

Dante (Epic) “Back for more.”
Dante is the male counterpart to Rosa. I like them both equally. He comes with a cape Back Bling (see below) while hers is a giant skull. Both very cool. I’m a little burnt out on day-of-the-dead stuff, though, as it’s basically what everyone is wearing in Black Ops 4 these days.
The Deep Freeze Set
Frostbite (Legendary)
Frostbite is the Outfit included in the “physical” release of Fortnite: Battle Royale. Warner Bros. is publishing the game, which is actually still just a code not a disc, as a retail package you can buy for $30(ish) USD and it comes with the Deep Freeze bundle. You’ll see more of that bundle below. It also comes with 1,000 V-Bucks, which is worth about $10, making the rest of this bundle about $20. Pre-orders are up on Amazon.

Chill Axe (Rare) “Keep it chill.”

The Galaxy Set
Stellar Axe (Epic) “The Stars are aligned.”
Interestingly, this axe (and the below glider and back bling) are part of the Galaxy set. You know, the special starry skin people got for purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I’m pretty sure all of these will be given to Note 9 owners who took part in the promo rather than find their way to the Item Shop.
Discovery (Epic) “Explore the galaxy.”
Galactic Disc (Epic) “Light years ahead of the rest.”
In any case, this is all good news for Galaxy Note 9 owners. The rest of us will just have to look on and admire.
Harvesting Tools
Guandao (Rare) “Sharpened for battle.”
This is Guan Yu’s very cool harvesting tool. I dig the dragon.
Longhorn (Rare) “Corral the competition.”
I suppose this might be Dante’s pickaxe, but it has more of a cowboy vibe than day-of-the-dead vibe to me. I still dig it. Actually, it reminds me a lot of one of my favorites, the Death Valley pickaxe which also features a skull (sans hat.)
Six String Striker (Epic) “Now taking requests.”
I like this one a lot. I suppose it could be either Dante or Rosa’s and it appears it also might evolve or be customizable. Not the first guitar we’ve seen in this game, but one of the best.
Back Bling
Top Notch (Epic) “Best in class.”
Summit Striker’s back bling, and almost certainly part of that Starter Pack. This one is fairly basic, but I always like these more traditional packs (like Raptor’s, for instance.) You feel ready to go out and meet any challenge with all that gear. Flashlight, radio, water purifier, batteries. Everything you need.
Loyal Shield (Epic)
The Loyal Shield is Guan Yu’s and was also part of last week’s leaks.
Spirit Cape (Epic) “Find your spirit.”
I really like Dante’s cape a lot. We have a lot of capes in the game now, but this is one of the finer ones, with some great detail up at the top. It’s regal and festive all at once.
Calavera (Epic) “Bare bones fashion.”
A calavera is a decorative (or sometimes edible) representation of a human skull used in Mexico’s dia de los muertos and this is an incredibly clever back bling. I love that the mouth is a zipper.
Gliders
Divine Dragon (Epic) “Sail through the clouds and row toward victory.”
Once again, Guan Yu’s lovely ship glider was part of last week’s cosmetic leak.
Spirit (Epic) “It’s a hoot.”
This is a lovely glider, and may also evolve/be customizable. I’m not sure yet if that’s the case or if there’s two different versions. Whatever the case may be, this is another sweet Day of the Dead themed cosmetic to go along with Rosa and Dante.
Emotes
Busy (Rare) “I’ll be with you in just a moment.”
Criss Cross (Rare)
Headbanger (Rare) “Bang your head against the air.”
Jugglin’ (Rare) “Pure concentration.”
Well folks, that’s all the leaked cosmetics for now. If more pop up I’ll add them to the post. Not a bad set of cosmetics overall, though we’ve seen some of this stuff before and some of it isn’t going to the Item Shop at all.
I think last week’s leaked cosmetics were probably overall better, though I do love the Day of the Dead skins. In any case, see you in the game where we’ll all be killing Cube monsters for a while.
