I was beginning to think that perhaps Epic had figured out some way of preventing dataminers from grabbing upcoming items, as usually they would have leaked a few days ago, but never fear, they’ve finally arrived.
This newest batch of skins and cosmetics contains a ton of cool items that you are going to be mandated to shell out V-bucks for, given how amazing some of these appear to be. There are three new legendary superhero skins as the highlight, but also we’ve moved into a new “Detective” theme with some noir-inspired characters.
Here are all the new cosmetics, along with a few thoughts on them. A lot of dataminers hunted these down, but these images come via FortniteIntel:
Sleuth and Gumshoe (Epic)
Here are the two “heroes” of the detective skin-saga, ones that should correspond with the upcoming insertion of a tommy gun into the game (called a “drum gun”), which I would guess might hit in week 10.
Star-Spangled Ranger and Noir (Uncommon and Epic)
Noir is the bad guy of this little micro-story, at least judging by the look of his trenchcoat. We have a little spy vs. spy action going too, as the two skins have a picture of the other as a “wanted” poster in their trenchcoat pocket. Which one is actually the bad guy? Star-Spangled Ranger is one of a trio of Fourth of July themed skins.
Fireworks Team Leader and Star-Spangled Trooper (Epic and Uncommon)
Here are the other two Fourth of July themed skins for your buying pleasure, and I think we can have a pretty safe hunch about when those are going to hit the store. Clearly the bear is the best option out of all of these.
Criterion and Oblivion (Legendary)
Is that….a lady Omega? It certainly seems like it, though I doubt she’s upgradable like her cohort. I’m just glad Omega has someone to settle down and spend his life with as they bond over their similar armor. I can’t tell if Criterion is a hero or villain.
Vertex (Legendary)
Vertex is probably the foil to Criterion, yet again, I can’t really tell which is the bad guy and which is the good guy, as is the case with a lot of these superhero skins. Is he a robot or a guy in a suit? I’m going with suit.
Terminus and Viceroy Mark I (Epic)
That looks like Oblivion’s glider to me, and clearly the other one is for our detective. An entire car as a glider? Sure Epic, go crazy.
Forerunner (Rare)
This looks like it matches Vertex pretty well. What, Criterion isn’t cool enough for his own glider?
Cluefinder and Evidence Bag (Epic)
Something tells me that the detective skins are going to look better without any back bling, but if that’s your bag, try out these two…things.
Blasting Cap and Confidential Case (Epic)
One more detective bag with a slightly altered color scheme, and a Fourth of July fireworks bag that can go with any of those holiday skins.
Destabilizer and Stabilizer (Legendary)
I think these are for Vertex and Criterion respectively, but I suppose Destablizer could look good on Oblivion as well.
Deflector (Legendary)
Oh wait this one is probably for Vertex then. Confusing. I don’t think it would work with the other two.
Magnifying Axe and Crimson Axe (Rare)
Epic continues to stretch the definition of what an “axe” is, now letting you hack down trees with a giant magnifying glass. Crimson Axe looks awesome, and does not appear to line up with any of these skins, so that’s curious. (Update: Ah, the Red Knight, perhaps?)
Razor Edge and Victory Lap (Rare and Uncommon)
Razor Edge looks like a Vertex Axe. I have no idea what Victory Lap is supposed to pair with.
Eagle and True Heart (Rare and Epic)
Is that the eagle dance from Always Sunny? God I hope so. I don’t know what the True Hart dance is just from that freeze frame.
Bring It and Infinite Dab (Uncommon and Rare)
Was dab seriously not an emote in this game yet? That’s surprising. Not sure what makes it “Infinite.”
Sparkler (Uncommon)
More Fourth of July action for you.
So, which of these are you going to run out and buy immediately? The superheroes? The detectives? All of the above? That’s just the way Epic likes it.
