Herd of cows cause 'udder chaos' during morning stroll in Bury town

Residents from Bury woke to a surprise when a herd of cows were on the moo-ve in their neighbourhood.

The drove which is believed to be from fields in Tottington took themselves for a morning walk today (March 17) much to the surprise of many residents.

Mum of five Sophie Howarth was preparing herself for work when she saw the unlikely visitors on her street.

Speaking to the MEN she said: "I was just getting ready for work and heard a trotting sound. I looked out my window to see seven or eight cows running down the road heading straight towards the neighbours house.

"I couldn't believe it I was laughing my head off. The kids were shouting at each other, 'come look quick there’s cows'.

"Nice to see some excitement every now and then. Hope the cows were back safe."

Farmer and owner of the cattle Chris Outram says the cows have since been returned safe and sound.

However, he wanted to remind the public to shut field gates when accessing farms to avoid livestock from getting loose.

He said: "I want to stress the importance of members of the public and dog walkers shutting field gates behind them, this is how they got out and now I'm going to have to replace damage done to peoples gardens out of my own pocket."
