Henry de Bromhead points to "unbelievable" support from racing industry following son Jack's tragic death

Henry de Bromhead made an emotional return to the racecourse as the successful trainer thanked the world of horse racing and the wider world for all of their support since the tragic passing of his son Jack.

13-year-old Jack de Bromhead tragically died after he suffered a fall from a pony during a beach race in the Glenbeigh Festival in Kerry back in September.

And stepping in front of the Racing TV cameras for the first time since his son's passing, de Bromhead spoke with great sincerity and gratitude as he expressed thanks for the support he and his family had received since the tragic incident.

Speaking to Ruby Walsh, he said: "With Jack and everything, we've had a pretty tough time.

"Firstly, your tribute to him was incredible, it blew us away at Leopardstown - and seeing everyone there was amazing.

"We've had a lot of tough weeks but the support from our family, friends and this industry - especially our industry - has been unbelievable."

And the trainer pointed to the many sources of strength he and his family have found - in the form of each and every person who has connected with them since the tragic accident occured.

"Heather, Georgia, Mia and myself have been blown away by it.

"Every bit of support we get gives us a little bit of strength and we feel incredibly lucky to have everyone around us."

From the other side of the camera, legendary jockey Ruby Walsh was audibly moved by de Bromhead's strength and words of gratitude and he responded with some moving words of his own.

He said: "It's great to see you back at a racecourse, and I speak for everyone when I say we are all behind you."

And as the clip was shared on Twitter, racing fans all shared the same sentiment as they paid tribute to de Bromhead.

One said: "What a great man - thoughts continue to be with Henry and his wife and family."

Another user felt similarly, and said: "It's just great to see Henry back racing.

"The very best of luck to him and all his family for the future."

And one poster pointed to de Bromhead's strength as a parent.

They said: "As a parent I simply can't get over his strength there in that interview."

All in all, de Bromhead was only wished well as racing fans watched on during his return to the racecourse at Thurles - and he had a typically successful day, too, with winners notched throughout the day.

His first success was courtesy of Secret She Keeps, the mount of Mark Walsh in the 2.00. Clearing the last fence with real composure, Walsh then guided the mare home comfortably.

Speaking about that initial success, de Bromhead paid tribute to both jockey Walsh and owner Robcour.

He said: ""I'm delighted for Mark, he gave her a super ride.

"I'm delighted for Robcour.

"I was saying we needed to stay hurdling but in fairness to Rob he sugggested we go chasing.

"Weren't they absolutely right - she loves jumping fences and that's her gig.

"She stayed really well the last day in Fairyhouse and she looked like she might struggle there across the top and then the further they went the more she stayed."

That was followed up with another triumph for de Bromhead as Still Ciel shedded the maiden tag at the fifth time of asking under Darragh O'Keeffe in an interesting finish in Thurles.
