Henderson, Origi, Gomez - Liverpool injury round-up and expected return dates

Liverpool returned to Premier League action with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leicester City on Thursday as Diogo Jota struck twice to secure all three points.

There was a welcome return to the starting XI for Thiago in midfield, while new signing Luis Diaz was given his full debut.

And most pleasing for Liverpool fans was to see the return of Mohamed Salah to the squad, after competing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations over the past month.

However, there were still a few absences from the squad, but all could be in contention to return this weekend.

Here is the current state of play at Anfield and the potential return dates for those currently on the sidelines.

Do Liverpool have any chance of catching Man City at the top of the Premier League? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Jordan Henderson

Midfielder Jordan Henderson managed 78 minutes of Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Cardiff City before being forced off with a back injury at Anfield.

Henderson then missed out on the victory over Leicester in midweek, but Klopp has confirmed that it isn’t a serious or long-term injury, and will hopefully be back in contention for Sunday’s visit to Burnley.

On Friday, Klopp said: “Hendo will be back. If nothing happens, he will play on Sunday."

Divock Origi

Belgian striker Divock Origi is getting ever closer to a return to first team action following a knee injury he sustained in December.

Origi has been back in full team training with the Reds but has yet to feature in the last two squads following the return from the winter break.

However, the 26-year-old is now fit and available for selection for this weekend’s game at Turf Moor.

Joe Gomez

Defender Joe Gomez has been absent from the past two Liverpool squads after testing positive for Covid-19 and therefore going into a period of self-isolation.

However, Gomez has been back in training this week and is fit enough to be selected this weekend.

On Friday, Klopp confirmed: "Divock and Joe weren't injured (on Thursday). With Joe we had to decide if we wanted a second centre-half on the bench."

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is finally back on Merseyside after returning from winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal over the past month.

Mane returned from those celebrations on Wednesday evening but a late decision will be made as to whether or not he features on Sunday.

In his pre-Burnley press conference, Klopp said: "Will Sadio be available? We have to find out. We will make a decision after training. Physically we have to see how the last few days were for him."
