Helping out Ukraine - kind Lanarkshire youngsters hold bake sale to raise money

A quartet of kind Lanarkshire school girls have raised nearly £200 for their fellow youngsters affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The four youngsters, all of whom are pupils at West Coats Primary in Cambuslang, had seen the conflict and wanted to help children caught up in the Russian invasion.]

After thinking of ideas for what to do, the four pals - Elise Barclay, 11, and 10-year-olds Rose O'Hara, Florence Woods, and Abigail Woodcraft - decided to hold a bake sale, and ended up earning £185.20 through their efforts, with the cash going to charity.

The girls made their own cakes and sold them in the garden of Elise's house in Stewarton Drive, Cambuslang.

Elise's mum, Jenny Barclay, told Lanarkshire Live : "The girls have been very concerned by what they've seen happening in Ukraine and wanted to do something to help the children whose lives have been so terribly affected.

"They got together and decided on a bake sale - making most of the cakes themselves - and were delighted that the event was so popular.

"We are all very proud of their efforts."

Lanarkshire Live recently told how a teacher at West Coats was from Ukraine, and had urged locals to help support those affected by the conflict in any way.

Yuliya Conroy has family living in Kyiv and is fearing for their safety.

The money raised by the bake sale has been donated to charity appeals for Ukraine.
