Despite these reports no one was found and after an extensive search the crews were called off at midnight.
An RNLI spokesperson said: “Dunbar’s RNLI lifeboat volunteers were called out last night (Thursday) after a report of activity causing concern at the castle.
“After UK Coastguard paged the crew at 9.30pm, the inshore lifeboat (ILB) launched and conducted a search of the shore near the area known as ‘the Maggie’.
“Shore crew volunteers assisted coastguard teams from Dunbar, North Berwick, Fisherrow and Eyemouth. Fire crews from Dunbar and East Linton and a specialist rope unit from Edinburgh also attended, along with the police and the ambulance service’s Special Operations Response Team.
“The coastguard helicopter arrived at 11.25pm and once the search was completed, the lifeboat was stood down at midnight.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a call of concern for a person around 9.05pm on Thursday, 19 May, 2022 at Dunbar Castle. Extensive enquiries were carried out and there was no trace of anyone.”
