Helicopter circles over beach in search for high risk missing person

A helicopter is circling over a Merseyside beach in a search for a high risk missing person.

Merseyside Police received a call at 18.57pm on Tuesday, October 11 and emergency services descended onto Ainsdale beach a short time later. People living in the area reported hearing "loads of sirens" before a police helicopter was spotted circling above.

Police have been joined by the Coastguard and the North West Ambulance Service at the scene.

Eyewitnesses also reported seeing a drone in the air as Coastguard officials walked along the beach and over the sand dunes. Merseyside Police have now confirmed they're responding to an ongoing incident in relation to a high risk missing person.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said the incident is of no concern to the wider public.

An eyewitness told The ECHO they saw somebody being put into the back of an ambulance near the beach just moments after the police helicopter left the scene.
