Helensburgh drivers some of the safest in the UK new figures show

The postcode covering Helensburgh is home to some of the UK’s most careful drivers, according to new figures.

Data published last week showed no drivers in the G84 postcode, which covers Helensburgh, Rhu, Garelochhead and the peninsula, have more than 12 points on their licence - with the average being 31 drivers in other G postcodes.

Just 4.8 percent of motorists in G84 have any points at all, compared to 6.5 percent nationally, and the highest number of points any one driver has on their licence is 10 - with 68 the highest in the country.

In G83, which covers Alexandria, Balloch, and Bonhill, there are 903 drivers with at least one penalty point on their licence. That’s 6.0 percent of the 15,092 registered licence holders in the postcode, the highest proportion in the area, and fractionally below the national average.

One driver in G83 has 12 points on their licence - the highest locally.

The G82 area, which covers Cardross and Milton, was just behind G83, with 5.9 percent of drivers having at least one penalty point - but no drivers having more than 12 penalty points.

Drivers in the L24 postcode, which includes areas of Liverpool, are the most likely in Britain to have points on their licence, among postcodes with at least 200 licence holders. One in seven drivers in the area (15.2 percent) have at least one point.

Nationally, 6.5 percent of registered licence holders have incurred points.

The oldest registered licence holder is 108 years old - though the DVLA says having a valid licence doesn’t mean someone is actively driving, resident in the UK or still alive. There is also a provisional licence registered to a 107-year-old.
