Helen Skelton ‘signs up to Strictly following split from husband’

TV and radio presenter Helen Skelton is signing up for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing for 2022, according to reports.

On Tuesday, the comedian and actress Ellie Taylor was the ninth celebrity to be announced for this year’s Strictly line-up, joining other stars including ex-Paralympian Ellie Simmonds and Loose Women star Kaye Adams.

Now, Skelton, 39, is said to be joining the Strictly ballroom ranks after her split from ex-husband Richie Myler, following nine years of marriage.

The pair announced their split back in April with the Countryfile host writing: “Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple.

“He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.”

Skelton and Myler share two children, Ernie, seven, and Louis, five.

Meanwhile, Myler, 32, has been seen with his new girlfriend, Stephanie Thirkill, 32, posted on his socials.

An inside source for The Sun has called Skelton’s rumoured sign-up “the perfect way to bounce back”.

They said: “Most people are absolutely desperate to avoid the Strictly curse but Helen would love it to give her some confidence back.

“She’s a great signing for the show and enormously popular with viewers, especially after what has happened to her lately. Everyone on the inside thinks she could end up going a very long way.”

A representative for Strictly told the Standard that they “don’t comment on speculation”.

The Evening Standard has also contacted Helen’s reps for comment.
