Helen Skelton missing from Countryfile again as viewers fume at 'clueless' water shortage warning

Helen Skelton was yet again missing from Sunday night's episode of Countryfile and has not been on the programme since her split from her Leeds Rhinos player husband.

The star shared the heartbreaking announcement in an emotional Instagram post a few weeks ago. The pair were together since 2011 and got married in 2013 - they now share three children together Ernie, Six and Louise, four and four month old Elsie Kate.

There was no mention of Helen in tonight's show for the third week running, as well as no explanation as to where she was.

But the show must go on so Matt Baker and Ellie Harrison went on to explore the grounds of Blenheim Palace estate, meeting the people who make this place tick.

But it was presenter Tom Heap’s segment with the chief executive of the Environment Agency which had viewers all talking.

Sir James Bevan issued a grim warning and said Britain was running out of water and climate change, rising populations and leaking pipes would lead to water supplies running out in some areas by 2050.

He said: "We would estimate that by 2050 we would need another 4billion litres of water every day - the equivalent of one additional reservoir every week.

Countryfile presenter Matt Baker (Sean Malyon)

"We need to reduce the amount of water that we use. We need to reduce leakage and personal consumption and increase supplies for the future. It is absolutely fundamental that we don't just have enough water for people and businesses but we have enough water for wildlife itself."

However viewers weren’t fully convinced by his warning as they went straight to social media is complain. @MTBforfun Tweeted: “Just watching #countryfile and listening to the clueless spokesman for the water company on leaks. Back in 2007 I left UU and leaks were targeted then. 15years later they still blame an antiquated Victorian network for leaks. Privatisation clearly hasn’t worked!! Profit rules.”

@merrelljk said: “#Countryfile it's immoral that water companies are making huge profits selling water. They should be state owned.”

@richardintheuk wrote: “This week’s waiting disaster is that we are going to run out of water and all nature will disappear, wiping out all humans.”

@JonRArc commented: “BBC Countryfile right now suggesting that by 2050 the UK may run out of water.” While @WayneyoWayne added: “#countryfile It's definitely climate change causing water shortages, not water companies, p*****g 20% of it away through their leaky pipes.”
