The 24-year-old heir to a $292 million Welsh pie fortune has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal Christmas Eve murder of his childhood best friend.

Dylan Thomas, the grandson of Sir Stanley Thomas, founder of Peter's Pies, shared a home in Cardiff with William Bush, a 23-year-old who was planning to move in with his girlfriend, the New York Post reported.

On December 24, 2023, Thomas fatally stabbed Bush 37 times in a premeditated attack. Evidence revealed that Thomas conducted online searches about human anatomy and assisted suicide before carrying out the killing.

Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Thomas claimed self-defense but was found guilty of murder in November.

On Friday, January 24, Cardiff Crown Court sentenced Thomas to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 19 years.

During the sentencing, victim impact statements from Bush's family highlighted the devastating emotional toll of the loss. Bush's sister described the crime as happening "in the most barbaric and cruel way."

The court acknowledged Thomas's mental illness but deemed the attack a "sustained and ferocious knife attack."
